Stage 5a
Two stages of our route branch off from Pastrengo: one direct to Lake Garda (Peschiera), and one to Verona. The latter variant runs largely on the Via Postumia, almost to Villafranca, then moves onto a beautiful and convenient bicycle-pedestrian path that leads toward the Mincio River and, having crossed it, returns to the base. The variant measures a total of 66 km, and we propose to divide it into 3 convenient stages.
Veronese Itinerary – Pastrengo-Verona
The stage begins by descending a steep path that takes us back to the canal that we left to climb to Pastrengo. We skirt it to the gates of the town of Bussolengo, of which we pass through the pleasant historic center; from now on we will skirt the Adige, to arrive at Pescantina, where an embankment path begins, partly wooded, that follows the sinuous course of the great river on the left bank to the gates of Verona: we cross a large bridge that takes us to the district of Chievo and from here we shortly arrive at the splendid Romanesque Basilica of San Zeno.
